PROJECT OVERVIEW
L&K was contracted by the City of London Corporation to upgrade all 90 streetlights on Southwark Bridge to LED.
The works were carried out on the Grade II listed bridge, which links Southwark and the City of London across the River Thames.

THE CHALLENGE
The bridge’s listed status and structural loading requirements meant the works required careful planning and coordination. Access using a mobile elevating work platform had to be managed in conjunction with the Port of London Authority, safety boat teams and traffic management to ensure the works could be completed safely.
THE WORKS
The project required the existing streetlighting across Southwark Bridge to be upgraded to LED while working within the constraints of a Grade II listed structure.
Careful coordination was required to manage access, bridge loading and the use of a mobile elevating work platform. L&K worked alongside the Port of London Authority, safety boat teams and traffic management to complete the installation safely.
PROJECT OUTCOME
The project delivered a complete LED upgrade to the bridge’s 90 streetlights while respecting the operational and structural requirements of the listed bridge environment.
