PROJECT OVERVIEW
L&K carried out all electrical aspects of the new St Helen’s Square public plaza at the junction of Leadenhall Street and St Mary Axe in the City of London.
The electrical installation formed an important part of the landscape and architectural design, incorporating lighting within the trees, planters and surrounding public realm together with specialist projector equipment.

THE CHALLENGE
The electrical installation needed to be carefully integrated into the architectural and landscape design of the new public plaza.
Lighting equipment was incorporated into trees, curved stone planters and specialist columns, requiring the electrical works to work closely with the physical design of the square while maintaining a clean finished appearance.
THE WORKS
L&K installed tree uplighters, fibre-optic lighting within the large curved planters and LED strip lighting beneath the edges of the stone seating and planter structures.
The project also included five new 10-metre columns and a specially designed 18-metre column carrying specialist projector equipment.
These installations formed part of the lighting scheme that transforms the square after dark, projecting patterns across the paving and complementing the landscape design.
PROJECT OUTCOME
The completed electrical installation forms an integral part of the St Helen’s Square public realm, providing architectural and landscape lighting throughout the plaza and supporting the specialist night-time lighting effects.
